Evening Prayer

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,

to sing praises to the Most High.

It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,

your faithfulness in the evening

Psalm 92:1-2

Reader: Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.

He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,

and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act.

Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Psalm 37:5-7

Together: Our Father in heaven,

we pray that your name will always be kept holy.

We pray that your kingdom will come.

We pray that what you want will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us the food we need for each day.

Forgive the sins we have done, just as we have forgiven those who did wrong to us.

& do not cause us to be tested; but save us from the Evil One.

The kingdom is yours, the power is yours & the glory is yours. Amen.

Dear God, I know that the world isn’t just mine

and there are lots of us who share it.

Help me to be good doing what I can to care for

the land, the sea, the trees and the wildlife.

Help us all to remember that we don’t own the world,

but we are like caretakers and guardians.

And help us make good choices, to stand up for what’s right,

because what you made is good. Amen.

Thought

The gospel is less about how to get into the Kingdom of Heaven after you die, and more about how to live in the Kingdom of Heaven before you die.

Leader: The sun sets on the day – seen or unseen

But the light of the world is never put out;

Jesus, our brother and king, is never overcome,

Our beacon for the journey on shines brightly,

And so we go into the evening confident of his presence with us

and resolved to keep following him,

as apprentices to our mighty and tender master.
